09070543 Brown-backed Solitaire, Myadestes occidentalis. Potentially a first U.S. record. Normally a resident of Mexico, this bird was photographed on July 19, 2009 at Ramsey Canyon, Huachuca Mountains, southeastern Arizona with a 600mm lens. This is not a high quality image. It is a very large crop and required a lot of sharpening but serves very well for documenting a new record for the U.S. |

09053129 While waiting at one of the South Rim overlooks, and hoping a California Condor would make a close pass, this one landed on the cliff about twenty feet away from me. The only lens I had with me was my 600mm lens and I couldn't back up to get more of the bird in the frame. So I was content to get head and shoulder images of California Condor #275, a seven year old adult male. Taken on May 11, 2009 at Grand Canyon National Park, AZ. Full frame. |

09030959 Black-chinned Hummingbird male, Archilochus alexandri, feeding at Penstemon parryi flower. Only the lower half of the gorget is iridescent purple in this species. Taken on March 25, 2009 in Miller Canyon, Huachuca Mountains, southeastern Arizona. |

09030387 White-lined Sphinx Moth, Hyles lineata, in flight feeding at Penstemon parryi flower. This full frame image was taken with a 150mm macro lens and a PhotoTrap camera triggering device. Reducers were used on the beam emitter and detector to pinpoint the spot to trigger the camera. When the moth hovered in front of the flower the camera was automatically fired by the PhotoTrap. Taken on March 19, 2009 in Miller Canyon, Huachuca Mountains, southeastern Arizona. |
